FCS FINS ROCK! I heart these surf fins.

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I love these things. Im very guilty of riding shore breakers too far in. Plus my heavy weight makes me a surf fin breaker. Most of my boards have been repaired which is costly.

With my newest surfboard, I again rode a wave in too far. It was during the local surfing competition called the Belmar Pro. I must of been too stoked by riding next to pros from all over the world.

So I broke my fin. Since its FCS I simply jumped of, used a key to remove the broken fin and keep surfing. It had small damage, so I let the local surf shop (where i bought the board) repair it. EasternLines

If this was a permanent fin type board, I would be screwed.

So many thanks to FCS.

PS> there are some really cool designer or artistic fins FCS offers. Cool stuff.

…and my door does rock the “FCS- Screw the system!” Sticker.

Longboard. Longboard Surfboard Sales

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Everyone one wants a long one!
Long fun rides, the capability of taking small wave and converting them into full rides. Longboard surfboards are a necessity in your surf quiver.

Wikipedia explains it as follows:

A surfboard is an elongated platform used in the sport of surfing. They are relatively light, but strong enough to support an individual standing on them while riding a breaking wave. They were invented in Hawaii, where they were known as Papa he‘e nalu in the Hawaiian language, usually made of wood from local trees, such as koa, and were often over 15 feet (5 m) in length and extremely heavy.[1][2] Major advances over the years include the addition of one or more fins on the bottom rear of the board to improve directional stability, and numerous improvements in materials and shape.

Modern surfboards are made of polyurethane or polystyrene foam covered with layers of fiberglass, cloth and polyester or epoxy resin. The end result is a light and strong surfboard that is buoyant and maneuverable. Recent developments in surfboard technology have included the use of carbon fiber.

Most modern surfboards can be divided into two main categories: longboards and shortboards. longboards are easier to surf on they are longer and easier to control. Beginner surfers should use longboads. Longboards, as the name suggests, are longer (often 8 ft/2.4 m or more), and are also thicker and wider, with a more rounded nose than a shortboard. Shortboards are shorter (5–7 ft/1.5–2.1 m), thinner, and have a more pointed nose. They are not as wide as longboards and are typically more maneuverable. Other variants include guns, longboard guns, olos, fun-boards, fish, eggs, bonzers, quads, tow-boards, and hydrofoils. In order to discuss board design, it is helpful to have basic knowledge of the vocabulary used to reference each part of the board.

Learn How to Duck Dive

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Duck Diving isn’t easy at first. But once mastered even in hurricane waves you will have a ton of success with your surfboard. I will admit the bigger the surfboard the tougher. My Retro XL Superfish is not an easy duck dive and I will sometime “turtle roll” what the longboarders do.

Here is a super quick video on how to duck dive.Turn off the cheesy music. lol
